I am a Google Apps user. I have been for a long time. I also user Dropbox and Backblaze. Tonight I spent some time cleaning up my Google Apps account and I found some interesting inconsistencies. Here’s what I found.
From what I can tell by looking at Googles online data I have used 18.13 GB of storage. I can conveniently upgrade my storage on this page.
The Google Drive App
In the Google Drive App I am using it reflects 2 of 32 GB used.
And the settings show I am syncing everything.
And finally Daisy Disk says I have 70.3 MB in my Google Drive folder which is where Google is syncing.
At this point I am very confused on how much of my storage I am using in Google Drive. How can I have three different totals? I would think that at least two of them would match up. This could cause some real trust issues. It could cause someone to not use certain online services. But could the issue be something simple, and yet not very well advertised in the user interface? Yep, it sure can.
Empty Your Trash
I emptied the trash, which had been building up for many years now and guess what? Interestingly enough I am not at 0.9 GB used. There wasn’t anything really intuitive that said, “Hey, empty your trash!” But that did it. Plenty of storage now. Duh!
