Have you ever wanted to track the jitter, delay, and packet loss within your network or between branches? In the ROUTE exam we teach students to configure an IP SLA to track values such as these and there are some handy show commands on the IOS CLI to view what’s going on. But you know as well as I do that the CLI is efficient, but not pretty. Take that a step further, and it’s not really that it’s not pretty, it’s that it takes multiple show commands to put the pieces together. This is where Solarwinds Orion IP SLA Manager can really kick things up a notch.
First off, I’ve already added a few SLA operations to my Orion server between HQ and a few Branches as you can see in the image below.
You cant tell that I only have a few SLA’s set up, but we will walk through another before this post is over. Before we do that let’s see how Orion presents the information to use. By clicking down on my Glendale office you can see there are a number of gauges indicating Packet Loss, Latency and Jitter, and even bi-directional jitter.
