Additional Notes for Switch 1.0
- General note for all Aliases referenced in the Administration Guide. The name of the alias files on the routers all have “-“ (dashes) not “_” (underscores).
- Lab 1-1. Page 20 Step 3 should also show “no shutdown” under Interface VLAN 1
- Lab 2-1,pg 23. For the VTP settings, you cannot disable VTP pruning when the mode is transparent. The students will just get an error message.
- Lab 2-1 pg 23. Should tell students to use a password of “cisco” for the VTP password as well as the domain name.
- Lab 2-1 pg 23. For bottom bullet pt, make sure students also disable the link between DSW1 and DSW2 (port fa 0/5). The lab does not mention.
- Lab 2-1 pg 25. Error. For the row that has device DSW2 with a link to CSW1,the bundle# should be 32. For the row that has device DSW2 with a link to CSW2,the bundle# should be 31.
- Lab 2-1 pg 42 on hint sheet. Last row for ASW1 it should say “Configure and shut port(s) to switch DSW2. (currently says ASW2)
- Lab 2-1 pg 42 on hint sheet. Last row for ASW2 it should say “Configure and shut port(s) to switch DSW1. (currently says ASW1)
- Lab 2-1 pg 44 on hint sheet. For CSW1 links to both R1 and R2 should allow VLANs 1,3,4,11,12,63-66.
- Lab 2-1 pg 44 & 45 on hint sheet. For CSW2 links to both R1 and R2 should allow VLANs 1,3,4,11,12,63-66.
- Lab 2-1 pg 46. Second row for CSW1 should read “Configure trunk links to R2 allowed VLANs 1,3,4,11,12,63-66”. (verification column is correct)
- Lab 2-1 pg 46. Third row for CSW1 should read Configure trunk links to R1 allowed VLANs 1,3,4,11,12,63-66. (verification column is correct)
- Lab 2-1 pg 47, 2nd row for CSW2 should read “Configure trunk links to R1 allowed VLANs 1,3,4,11,12,63-66”. (verification column is correct)
- Lab 2-1 pg 47, 3rd row for CSW2 should read “Configure trunk links to R2 allowed VLANs 1,3,4,11,12,63-66”. (verification column is correct)
- Lab 2-2 I do believe that one of the problems is a Int Vlan is shutdown on at least one of the switches, but I don’t think the “hints” show this one.
- Lab 2-3. It is important that the students are careful to do the lab in the correct order. They MUST ping between R1 and R2 VLAN 51 interfaces BEFORE they configure the isolated and primary steps.
- Lab 2-3. Pg 98 for the top table, make sure if the student are following along in the table that they do the 4th row (set VLAN 501 as primary and 51 as isolated) as the LAST step.
- Lab 2-3 pg 98. For the bottom table, make sure the students notice that the rows do not go in the correct Implementation order. In particular, steps that are marked “implementation order 8 and 9” are out of order!!!
- Lab 3 -1 Just a note for instructor. Make sure that the VLAN database is exactly the same on both Distribution switches.
- Lab 3-2. Pg 147 should show “spanning-tree vlan 1,3,1,36,65 root primary” (second row down for DSW1)
- Lab 3-2. Have students bring up Fa0/5 between DSW1 and DSW2 and test link before going on to Lab 3-3
- Lab 3-3. Port Fa0/5 between DSW1 and DSW2 is used for this lab (both trouble tickets).
- Lab 4-2 Trouble ticket A. General note. It is probably a good idea to have students do an “ipconfig /release” “ipconfig /renew” when they try to ping from the client.
- Lab 5-1. There is a note in Admin guide on pg 13 that says there are some missing steps and student should add ip address to vlan 3 and 4. These steps aren’t really missing, they were done in lab 4-1. For this lab the students are changing the IPs on DSW1 because the IPs that DSW1 is currently using are going to be used for the HSRP virtual IP addresses so the students don’t have to change the default-gateway on the PCs.
- Lab 6-2 First note in Admin guide pg 14 for Lab 6-2 should read “Last line on pg 278 should be “vrrp 1 ip 10.1.253.30” (this is for on R2)
