It’s 9:30 AM on Wednesday morning and the Networking Field Day delegates are just settling in for the first of a handful of presentations from various networking vendors sponsoring the event. VeloCloud delivers a solution for SDN-WAN, whereas the identified issue of the broken WAN is addressed with the VeloCloud Solution. A dynamic WAN appliance is what we’re talking about here. The solution is highlighted on the VeloCloud Web site, but you may want to view the embedded video below that gives a decent high-level overview of the architecture. I like the idea of having traffic directed over multiple links, ranging from my Internet connection to my WAN circuits and anyone can certainly see the cost benefits in it. I would consider the initial drawbacks to the solution being the need to deploy additional hardware, especially after already deploying solutions in recent months. For anybody who is looking to upgrade their when that has not made an investment yet, this could be right up your alley. Will have to see what they say during the presentation, which of course will be streamed live. So be sure to watch the live stream at Tech Field Day.com. If for some reason you’re not able to view the live stream, the sessions will be recorded and you can watch them later on, when it’s convenient for you.
One additional note that I would like to make, is that while the video stream is being fed live to the Internet, it’s still a good idea to follow the conversation on Twitter which will use the hashtag #nfd9. One area of interest I’ll be looking further into is that of implementing security on each of these data flows. I’d really like to know how VeloCloud sees this happening. I have my own ideas, but I’ll save those for a later post.
