MAC OSX- Locking Your Desktop

Since I'm working on my CCIE Security its only fitting that I be concerned about the security of my own laptop.  Well, I have been using a MacBook since I started writing the CCNA Wireless Exam Certification Guide and I love it.  It's the COOLEST toy I've owned.

Apple Store  Enough ranting about my MAC.  I have been trying to figure out how to quickly lock the screen.  I found a post here on MackWorld, but it was after I figured out the method seen in this short video.

Download the Lock Desktop.app here.

  1. Glad you found the tutorial useful, Brandon! Two other options you should be aware of:

I personally use Apple’s built-in Hot Corners functionality (under Desktop & Screen Savers) to start the screensaver and lock my desktop. I’ve also got a separate corner for sleeping the display entirely.

Alternately, you can directly run ScreenSaverEngine.app (if you dig down enough into the System folder to find it) and have it start immediately. Leaf Raker has a good post on this:

  2. @Dan- Thanks for the leaf raker post. Very useful. The one thing that has got me not liking the hot corners is that if I accidentally hit them ‘BLAHM’ your locked. I do a lot of classroom demos and move the mouse alot. It annoys me when i accidentally hit the hot corners so i turned them off. Thanks again!
