According to Rob Aldridge (I may be spelling his name wrong-sorry) at Cisco. I was recently approached by a representative at Cisco to post about TechWise TV. If you are not familiar with TWTV you may want to check them out. Personally I have known about TWTV for some time now. In fact I used to take the bus to work and listen to TWTV podcasts. So for me to be asked to comment on the personalities Robb Boyd and Jimmy Ray Purser, immediately I thought, " I love those guys!" They are funny yet the information they deliver is timely and technical.
That being said, lets get back to the topic at hand. This Thursday TWTV is putting on a 1 hour show dealing with Energy Efficiency in the Data Center. Check out this preview:
I was privileged enough to be able to preview this web-cast and I have to say, I was shocked to hear some of this stuff. Did You know that:
- The number 1 source of greenhouse gas emissions is the world is Electrical Consumption and the emissions from burning of coal to provide that Electricity!
- IT is on PAR with the Airlines in terms of emissions!
- 55% of the worlds Electricity comes from burning coal!
And the most shocking to me was this one:
- A 1U Server running 24/7 puts out the same emissions as a Toyota Camry that drives 15,000 miles a year.
Wow! I did not know that! I wonder what my 6509 puts out? It's gotta be nearly the same as an Escalade or a Ford Excursion (do they still make those beasts?).
Anyhow you can view this Web-Cast by clicking the link below and registering.
As an Added bonus, and to promote community the first 5 commenter's (with a valid email address) that comment AFTER watching the webinar will get a free Cisco T-Shirt.
So I leave you with this question to start the commenting;
Do you care about how IT is leaving a footprint on the Environment and what have you done or do you plan on doing to help?

Thank you for the kind words. Robb and I are always grateful for the folks that watch the show. This show was really very interesting for me as a geek. I am not interested in ideology as an engineering fundie. I need solid design for my customers. We got to work with some great folks that really had some solid engineer design principles that not make sense BUT help do your part for the environment. One of those ultra rare win-win deals we always look for! Kinda like trying to find a original Medal of Yavin…
Please send Robb and I your thoughts how to build a better show and/or demos you would love to see. Robb will not wear a dress or shave his head. (we tried that on a UC show…) so no need to request that one. I love watching our accountants grab their heart medication when I submit an equipment bill to them! So sky is the limit!!!

Gosh Brandon…you failed to mention that we were also devoted twitter followers! No mind…people always look at me funny when I try to explain twitter anyway. Thanks so much for the post! We appreciate the visibility to your audience as I gotta think that anyone that can hang with your knowledge is exactly who we would like to be aiming this show at…so tell us if we diverge! I was shocked by what I learned in this show as well – I was also pleasantly surprised at how many ways we (as Cisco and an industry) are moving in the right direction simply because it also made a lot of financial sense. I think there is good value in this show from a number of different leaders – we welcome comments back of course…either techwisetv@cisco.com or go to the show wiki and open a post on the relevant show page: http://www.mytechwisetv.com Thanks again! Twitter with you soon…
Robb
Nice Video… you should probably show it to Ted and Zoran.
