For 2 days I’ve been messing with IEV on an IPS section of Section 15. I’m not sure what this means. Anyone have an idea?

IDM is running in the background so I know this server can reach the sensor.

And the answer is….

Brandon,
The service is not running on the server. Go into service manager in
windows services.msc. look for cisco IEV process and start the process.

IPexpert Multiprotocol Challenge C

Posted September 4th, 2008 by bcarroll and filed in CCIE Security, IPExpert Labs

I started IPexpert Multiprotocol Challenge Lab C yesterday.  It was not too bad but I had a lot of distractions.  The one portion that had me questioning my config versus the proctor guide relates to AAA.

The lab calls for controlling telnet access.  It says that the admin sould log int using port 3099.  Thats easy:

line vty 15

rotary 99

Next it says that the admin should not get a menu and that users should.  So I created a menu called Cisco.  No problem.  Then I tied the autocommand to one of the 2 users that I have in ACS:

User1 autocommand menu CISCO

This is where the lab differs.  Thel lab simply applies the autocommand to all the lines except the ont that has the rotary configured.

Line vty 0 14

autocommand menu CISCO

I suppose there was subtle wording in the lab that indicated that the autocommand should not be applied to a user, rather directly to a line.  Its the little things like this that are going to get me on October 16th.

Well back to the labs again today.

Using GNS3 to set up a simple EIGRP lab

I havent posted in a while because I have been really swamped.  In the following video I show you how to set up EIGRP using GNS3 and Dynamips between 2 3600 series routers.  You will need to understand EIGRP for the CCNA exam.

I referenced Blindhog.net, where you can find more video tutorials on using DYNAMIPS.

Holy Guacamole! IPexpert MP Challenge B is in the books.

Posted September 1st, 2008 by bcarroll and filed in CCIE Security, IPExpert Labs

After 5 hours I have finished IPexert CCIE Security Section 14 Multiprotocol Challenge B.

What a sense of completion.  There where some questionable items thought but I suppose that I could have asked a proctor if it were the real lab.  I must be sick but…that was fun!

Now time to switch my mind off and go make some catfish for dinner and hang with my family.
