Kudos to IPExpert
Gotta give kudos to IPexpert. As Tweeted by IPexpert themselves, they are ranked #1137 among Americas 5000 fastest growing companies. Their commitment to all of us in delivering quality products is evident. How often do you see the President and Founder along with the Vice President of a Company directly interact with Customers? Well they do and I have to say that because they are involved I am drawn to do business with them.
Kudos Guys and keep up the good work.

CCIE labs changing from UniversCD to Cisco Documentation
On Sept 24 2008 CCIE labs will no longer support using the UniversCD documentation for the lab exam.
All labs are migrating to Cisco Documentation only. For those scheduled to take the CCIE lab prior to Sept 24 access will still be available for UniversCD.
The Cisco Documentation pages have the same information that currently resides on UniversCD, please refer to the links on the CCIE web pages to view these pages and become familiar with the new format.
After Sept 24 2008 only the Cisco Documentation web pages will be available for CCIE labs.
Time to change my practice plan!
MAC OSX- Attaching to an Email with hotkey
This video shows you how I use Quicksilver and an Automator application to attach finder items to an email. If you find it useful why not digg it or stumble it so others can see it too.
Here is what you need:
- Quicksilver
- Automator or just download the app i made HERE!
- Mail.app (of course you could probably use another by changing the Automator app.)
- And of course, you need a mac. If you dont have one….get one from the apple store.
You may also find my article on Locking the desktop useful. You can find it here.

ipexpert CCIE Security WB Section 8: VPN Concentrator
My Notes from my early morning of study!
- The Autonymous System checkbox on the VPN 3000 does NOT redistribute connected networks! Therefore you have to enable OSPF on the inside interface even though there are no OSPF neighbors there.
- When configuring ezvpn VERIFY the IP address of the peer. DUH. If I hadn’t goofed this up I would have finished a 3 hour lab (According to the WB) in an hour and a half:
R4#telnet 10.1.1.1 /source-interface l0
Trying 10.1.1.1 ...
*Aug 23 16:42:28.758: %CRYPTO-6-EZVPN_CONNECTION_DOWN: (Client)
User= Group=EZVPN Client_public_addr=192.1.24.4
Server_public_addr=192.168.24.5
Sticks out like a sore thumb after you see it.
Wonderful Opportunity!
Anyone think I can get this guy to take me into the future instead, say around October 17th to find out if I pass the Lab or not? The I’ll know if I have to study harder right now!
QOS References
In my CCNP2 (ONT + ISCW) class this week the question came up about what books I recommend for QOS. Personally I have read the following and I do in fact recommend them:

MAC OSX- Locking Your Desktop
Since I'm working on my CCIE Security its only fitting that I be concerned about the security of my own laptop. Well, I have been using a MacBook since I started writing the CCNA Wireless Exam Certification Guide and I love it. It's the COOLEST toy I've owned.
Enough ranting about my MAC. I have been trying to figure out how to quickly lock the screen. I found a post here on MackWorld, but it was after I figured out the method seen in this short video.
Download the Lock Desktop.app here.

And now….Here is the Video.
By the way, What got me to thinking about AWESOME Mac stuff is fellow blogger Greg Ferro over at Ethereal Mind. Check his posts out here!

IT on par with Airlines in terms of Emissions
According to Rob Aldridge (I may be spelling his name wrong-sorry) at Cisco. I was recently approached by a representative at Cisco to post about TechWise TV.
If you are not familiar with TWTV you may want to check them out. Personally I have known about TWTV for some time now. In fact I used to take the bus to work and listen to TWTV podcasts. So for me to be asked to comment on the personalities Robb Boyd and Jimmy Ray Purser, immediately I thought, " I love those guys!" They are funny yet the information they deliver is timely and technical.
That being said, lets get back to the topic at hand. This Thursday TWTV is putting on a 1 hour show dealing with Energy Efficiency in the Data Center. Check out this preview:
I was privileged enough to be able to preview this web-cast and I have to say, I was shocked to hear some of this stuff. Did You know that:
- The number 1 source of greenhouse gas emissions is the world is Electrical Consumption and the emissions from burning of coal to provide that Electricity!
- IT is on PAR with the Airlines in terms of emissions!
- 55% of the worlds Electricity comes from burning coal!
And the most shocking to me was this one:
- A 1U Server running 24/7 puts out the same emissions as a Toyota Camry that drives 15,000 miles a year.
Wow! I did not know that! I wonder what my 6509 puts out? It's gotta be nearly the same as an Escalade or a Ford Excursion (do they still make those beasts?).
Anyhow you can view this Web-Cast by clicking the link below and registering.
As an Added bonus, and to promote community the first 5 commenter's (with a valid email address) that comment AFTER watching the webinar will get a free Cisco T-Shirt.
So I leave you with this question to start the commenting;
Do you care about how IT is leaving a footprint on the Environment and what have you done or do you plan on doing to help?
